This month's New Moon occurs on Aug. 18, 2012, 0:54 JST (all the timing in this article is to be calculated in JST) at the 26th degree of Leo. Since January, we are thinking about degree meanings with Sabian symbols as hints. The symbol is "a rainbow". I have explained that to think about degree meaning, we have to geometrically divide a sign into smaller units until the width reduces to 1 degree. I am taking up the way in which a sign is divided first into 3 sections of 10 degrees(decans). Then this 10 degree is further divided into 2 sections of 5 degrees. Finally, this 5 degree section is divided into 5 of each degree. With each dividing operation, we are adding a bit of meaning assigning a role signified by the number within the small section as a whole. So the 26th degree of Leo belongs to the third decan of the sign, second half of the decan and 1st of the 5 degree section. Let us code this as "3-2-1" in this article.

Now let's think about what is the meaning of dividing up to a certain number of parts. Zodiac it self is divided into 12 signs as parts. I think the number 12 symbolize "organizational confinement". So division of 12 implies 12 steps toward growing into organizationally confined whole. In the same way, if we divide something into 3, we are analyzing 3 steps to become grown and characterized (which the number 3 symbolizes). The same image of dividing 12 signs into 3 "perspectives(as termed in Glenn Perry's text)", personal-interpersonal-transpersonal applys to this, too. So we are talking about generalization of the function of Leo's developing personal intelligence and communications theme. Divide by 2 means analyzing 2 steps to become aware of the theme of the region (which the number 2 symbolizes). So we are developing objective awareness rather than subjective of the first half.
Then we finally divide the 5 degree area into 5 parts of 1 degree. 5 signifies expression of creativity. So we are thinking about 5 steps to creatively express the theme of the whole 5 degrees area. The first step of those 5 steps (with the latter half of the third section of Leo, this is the symbol "a rainbow"), is to simply observe the theme of the area. The Leo function of radiating individuality, working collectively here in the 3rd decan, is now actually experienced as reflection from the sky(collectiveness) in this scene. The second step is to sense the reaction to the first movement. "Daybreak", which is the theme of this month, is noticing how the individual is expected to appear in the collective scene, just as we wait for the Sun to rise in the morning. Then the third step is accumulation of the observations and their understandings. The symbol "Many little birds on a limb of a large tree" implies that the there are many kinds of birds singing each song to its own thanks to the tree as collective environment provided. When on 4th step, one tries to utilize the expressive ability to be of service in a community culture. "A mermaid" is the image created and survived for a long time within the human culture, about which the image is established so firmly that everybody knows about it but no body actually saw. The fifth step is the creative output of this five degree area. The image of "An unsealed letter" in this context is the will to affect larger culture in the community by the content of the message about to be revealed. This process of five steps are around every degree we analyze with Sabian symbol, so being aware of the context helps focusing the meaning of the symbol.
Aspects to the Sun
Right before the New Moon on 8/17, the Sun has touched Saturn. We have talked about this as "leader may show some administrative capacity in a constructive way". And then the Sun will make contact with Mars on 8/21. This movement is started when Mars touches Saturn on 8/15, and the Sun is in a sense picking up the theme raised by the Mars-Saturn contact. Decisive decision and action will be gradually put into force as Mercury come back to the place where it has started retrogradation. Gradually, new directions will appear and get going. Several issues are going on in Japan including Takeshima island, Senkaku, new movement among political parties including Ishinno-Kai. Then from 8/24 to 30, the Sun touches Neptune and Pluto, either being influenced by public image and rumors or trying to establish certain image. Then from 9/7 to 9/10, the Sun will be in touch with Jupiter and Mercury, and leaders might be busy spreading informations causing argument or promoting their activities and plans.
Aspects among the rest of the planets
There is no important exact aspect of note among outer planets for this Moon month, but right after the period is over, Uranus and Pluto will form the second square out of its seven squares till 2015 (and the Sun touches Uranus-Pluto from 9/29 to 9/30, making important focus of timing).
The first inner planet to track is Mercury which is very active in this month, touching most of the other planets and goes into its own sign of Virgo on 9/1. From 8/19 to 8/30, Mercury touches Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn and there will be every kind of opinions expressed in the first half of this period and then seeks to find some answer when the Mercury touches Saturn. After leaving rather boisterous Leo, Mercury goes into meticulous Virgo on 9/1. Then Mercury touches Neptune and Pluto picking up and learning something unexpressed within atmosphere or buried under earth. Report might be received from the venue of secret operation, because it touches the action department Mars at the same time. Then from 9/9 to 9/10, Mercury touches Jupiter and Sun collecting a lot of informations needed for leaders to make up their idealism.
Next let's look at what Venus is up to. Venus is related to making values and cooperative relationships, and from 8/15 to 8/16 Venus touches with Pluto and Uranus to "induce radical radical movement (or form cooperation with the purpose of radical reform)". Headlines told us that Several DPJ, LDP and Your Party members seek to shake hands with Osaka Mayer Hashimoto, and Nagoya Mayer Kawamura intends to cooperate with ex-DPJ Diet members to strengthen his party. Then on 9/3 Venus touches Saturn and cooperations will produce certain results or if not the cooperation might be severed. On 9/13, Venus will touch Uranus and spontaneous cooperation might be born out of blue.
Next, let us talk about Mars, the action department. Right before the New Moon on 8/15, Mars formed conjunction with Saturn. There were some accomplishments going on around this time which lead to various movements of leaders or forming of cooperation as I observed above. On 8/21, those movements will be asserted rather strongly when Mars touches the Sun. And from 8/26 to 9/5, Mars touches Neptune, Pluto and Mercury so this could be a chance that minority opinion be asserted and picked up by public.
Planets which change direction or sign
Planets other than Sun and Moon sometimes change their direction of apparent movement seen from the earth. When a planet changes its direction, it moves slowly and may leave its mark on various social events in the world. Within this Moon month, no planet changes its direction.
And planets, especially those that move slowly, change their signs in sync with shifts in corresponding profile of social or collective psychology. Within this Moon month, the planet among the planets which travel slower than the earth that changes its sign is Mars. Mars has been traveling through Libra in which cooperation is the main motive to be earnest. After Mars goes into Scorpio on 8/24, deep sharing of motives and resources will become a motives for action and possibly conflict, too.
During this Moon month, keeping the points I have raised above, let's try to use our Leo Sun's energy of leading and shining individuality to brighten up society like a rainbow. It should be interesting to observe those symbols reflected in the real socio-situations in the world.
